BREEDS





Abyssinian guinea pigs have a short, rough coat that have cowlicked rosettes of hair.


Alpaca guinea pigs have long, curly hair that grows forward over their face, and is of even length all over their body.



Crested guinea pigs have a single cowlicked rosette that gives them a crest on the top of their head.



Coronet guinea pigs have long hair, similar to that of a Silkie, and they have a single cowlicked rosette that gives them a crest on the top of their head.



Merino guinea pigs have long, curly hair and a single cowlicked rosette that gives them a crest on the top of their head.



Peruvian guinea pigs have long hair that grows forward over their face, and is of even length all over their body. They have both an undercoat and a topcoat, with their topcoat growing to approximately 50 cm in length.



Rex guinea pigs have short, fuzzy hair that stands on end all over their body. Their hair is uniform all over without any rosettes and it is up to 1.25 cms (0.5 inches) in length. 



Short Haired guinea pigs have consistently short, glossy hair without a part. They can be a variety of colours and patterns such as self, Dalmatian and Himalayan.



Silkie guinea pigs, also known as Shelties, have long hair that flows back over their body. They have longer hair at the rear and if viewed from above, they form a teardrop shape.



Skinny pigs are an almost hairless breed. Only a few hairs can be seen on muzzle, feet, and legs.
 


Teddy guinea pigs have a very dense, fuzzy coat with hairs that stand up on end. Their fur grows to a moderate length and unlike other guinea pigs, who have a nearly bare underside, Teddies have relatively long hair on their bellies.



Texel guinea pigs have long, curly hair that flows back over their body. Their tightly wound, corkscrew curls cover their entire body, including their stomach, and they can have a central part.
